Gynecomastia is a disease in which enlargement of glandular tissues lead to formation of male breasts. It can occur at any age and is caused by hormonal changes, heredity, use of any drugs, chronic diseases or obesity. Medicines can be useful but if it does not treat gynecomastia within two years then surgery is the only way to treat this disease. Gynecomastia is not a life threatening disease and does not even have long term effects on a person’s life. However, it alters the appearance of a person and can lead to embarrassment and humiliation. The only sure shot way to cure this disease is surgery.

About Liposuction

Reduction of male breast through liposuction involves excision of skin, fat and glandular tissues. It is a little more complex procedure than liposuction alone. It has proved to be very effective in tapering of excess fat to flatten the chest. This surgery is generally combined with incisions made at the edge of the pigmented part of the areola in order to get rid of excess fat and glandular tissues.

Before surgery, a thorough examination and proper investigations are required for finding out any reversible causes of breast enlargement in males. If medicines are not sufficient or do not work then surgery is the only option available to the patient. It is important for the patient to be at his normal weight before the surgery because enlargement of breast can be mainly due to excess fat. Glandular tissues are excised while fat tissues are reduced by liposuction.

Vaser and smartlipo options are good in case of gynecomastia. Some new instruments are less invasive and cause a very small scar but most of the patients who have excess glandular tissue need a scar along the edge of the areola for access. Recurrence of gynecomastia after a surgery is very less. It is however recommended that the surgery be carried out by a certified professional in a certified set up. Scarring is there and in some cases, complications might occur. However, liposuction for gynecomastia is a comparatively safe surgery.

Most of the times surgery gives immediate and visible results. It takes some days to heal but the results can be seen immediately after the surgery. Patients can go back to work within few days. Post-operative care is very important to avoid any kind of infection. The patients are guided by experts before getting discharged.
